In a low scoring final of 2009 Champions Trophy, Australia successfully defended their title as they beat New Zealand by 6 wickets in the final to lift the title 2nd time on Monday, 5th October, 2009 at Centurian. NZ made 200/9 in 50 overs and Aus made 206/4 in 45.2 overs.

New Zealans without their inspirational captain Daniel Vettori elected to bat made only 200/9 in 50 overs and got 2 early wickets of Australia but Shane Watson with unbeaten century completed with 2 sixes on last 2 balls with 106 runs, his back to back century in this tournament with Cameron White 62 runs put 128 runs for the 3rd wicket and set the victory.
